Es lo más normal, de otra manera no andaría nada; la velocidad se la dan las cuatro primeras patas.
La mantis religiosa para aparearse necesita tener en una posición al macho, para ello utiliza sus patas delanteras. También le sirve para que no se le escape y poder comérselo a continuación.
Yo de crío he cogido multitud de saltamontes, grillos, etc.. les he quitado las patas traseras y os puedo asegurar que corrían una barbaridad con solo sus cuatro patas.
Según he investigado solo usan 4 patas para caminar.

A: Some butterflies do appear to have only four legs. These butterflies have a pair of reduced legs that are used for chemical perception (to taste) which are usually hairy looking and held close the body when not in use. This group of butterflies is called the Brush-footed butterflies.
The first pair of legs is greatly reduced in size and only the back four legs are used as functional legs.
Asi que vemos claramente que estos animales SOLO CAMINAN CON 4 PATAS.
