¿Qué ocurrió en el episodio que se narra en Éxodo 4:24-26, y qué vida estaba en peligro?

Moisés se dirigía a Egipto junto con su esposa Ziporá y sus hijos Guersom y Eliezer cuando sucedió lo siguiente: “Aconteció en el camino, en el lugar de alojamiento, que Jehová consiguió encontrarse con él y siguió buscando la manera de darle muerte. Por fin Ziporá tomó un pedernal y le cortó el prepucio a su hijo e hizo que este tocara los pies de él y dijo: ‘Es porque eres novio de sangre para mí’. En consecuencia, él lo soltó. En ese tiempo ella dijo: ‘Novio de sangre’, por motivo de la circuncisión” (Éxodo 4:20, 24-26). Aunque el pasaje en sí no es claro y no podemos ser categóricos en cuanto a su significado, las Escrituras arrojan cierta luz sobre estos versículos.

El relato no dice en concreto qué vida estaba en peligro. No obstante, es lógico pensar que no se trataba de la de Moisés, puesto que acababa de recibir la comisión divina de sacar a los israelitas de Egipto (Éxodo 3:10). Y en vista de que iba en camino de cumplir con ese cometido, tampoco parece probable que el ángel de Dios amenazara su vida. Por lo tanto, debe tratarse de la vida de uno de los hijos de Moisés. La ley dada a Abrahán sobre la circuncisión estipulaba: “El varón incircunciso que no quiera circuncidarse la carne de su prepucio, esa misma alma tiene que ser cortada de su pueblo. Ha quebrantado mi pacto” (Génesis 17:14). Todo parece indicar que Moisés no había circuncidado a su hijo, por lo que la vida de este corría peligro.

Al cumplir con los requisitos del pacto de la circuncisión, ella reconoció que existía un pacto con Jehová. El pacto de la Ley establecido posteriormente con los israelitas dejó claro que en un pacto, Jehová asume, por decirlo así, el papel de esposo, y la otra parte, el de esposa (Jeremías 31:32). De manera que al llamar a Jehová (mediante su representante angélico) “novio de sangre”, Ziporá estaba sometiéndose a los términos de ese pacto. Era como si hubiera aceptado la posición de esposa en el pacto de la circuncisión, teniendo por esposo a Jehová. Sea como fuere, gracias a su decidido acto de obediencia al mandato divino, la vida de su hijo ya no corría peligro.

Mi Biblia bilingüe en hebreo y en francés dice "époux de sang" = esposo de sangre. Si fuera novio, entonces, diría fiancé.. Y es una traducción hecha por los miembros del rabinato judío y francés, quienes dominan perfectamente ambos idiomas.
